About Calvin Y Choi

I am an associate professor of medicine in the University of Florida Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. I am the Section Head of interventional cardiology and the Director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and the structural heart program at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center.

My clinical expertise is in percutaneous management of complex coronary artery and structural heart diseases. I have extensive experience in coronary chronic total occlusion, in addition to TAVR, TMVR, MitraClip, mitral commissurotomy, paravalvular leak closure, patent foramen ovale closure, atrial septal defect closure, ventricular septal defect closure, alcohol septal ablation and Watchman left atrial appendage occlusion.

I earned my undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and biology, along with my medical degree, from the University of Maryland. Additionally, I obtained a master’s in physiology from Georgetown University and a master’s in healthcare administration from the University of Florida. I completed a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. I also completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, followed by cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships, at the University of Florida.

I am a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. I serve as the physician director of quality for the division, where I lead quality improvement initiatives. I have received numerous teaching and clinical service awards from the UF Department of Medicine and the UF College of Medicine. I am bi-lingual in English and Korean.
