About Shawn C Simek

My name is Shawn Simek, MD, and I am a clinical assistant professor in the division of cardiovascular medicine. I was inspired to be a doctor by my very early desire to help others, and I specialized in cardiology because I find the physiology of the cardiovascular system and the diversity of cardiac imaging tools fascinating. My specific interests include non-invasive cardiac imaging to diagnose and evaluate progression of valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease.

I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, and my medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where I also completed a cardiology fellowship and served as the chief fellow. I have expertise in the following areas: valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, kayaking and camping.
